High school dropout rates

Drop out rates in high schools across the nation are at an all time high. Some high schools have been deemed by the media as "drop out factories." This problem must be approached. I believe that this is a direct result of teachers who don't care about the success of their students. The high dropout rates are also a direct result of a cirriculm that pushes students to go to college and does not provide other alternatives for students. What do you think about the issue?

You can't say that teachers don't care. Alot of times teachers have little control over the curriculum with standardized tests. I do agree that there needs to be more alternative high schools and schools should offer more programs that focus on vocational training and not just college.

Is it possible that some teens drop out because of the problems they are enduring at home. I personally know teens who have to work outside home just to help support their family. Also, I have heard many teens state that they feel like they are getting good enough pay at minimum wage and don't see it necessary to finish high school. Also, some feel college is too expensive and don't see any reason for completing high school. These are all reasons why teenagers have dropped out at my school.
